Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about BathPaws. If your question isn't here, just get in touch.

Getting started

How do I get started?

Get in touch to book a free meet-and-greet. I'll come to your home, meet your dog, and we'll talk through what would work best. After that, we arrange a trial walk or visit, and if everyone's happy, we settle into a regular routine.

Is the meet-and-greet free?

Yes, completely free with no obligation to book. It's just a chance for me to meet your dog and for you to ask any questions.

How far in advance do I need to book?

I try to be flexible. For regular walks, a week's notice is ideal. For pet check-in visits during holidays, the more notice the better, especially during busy periods like school holidays and Christmas.

Dog walking

How many dogs are in a group walk?

A maximum of four. I keep groups small so every dog gets attention and the walk stays safe and enjoyable.

Where do you walk?

I rotate routes across Charlcombe valley, Lansdown fields, the canal towpath, Bathampton Meadows, and local parks. I match the route to the dogs, the weather, and the season.

How long is a walk?

Around one hour including collection and return. The walking time itself is typically 45 to 55 minutes depending on the route and the group.

Can you walk my dog on-lead only?

Yes. I'll follow your instructions. If your dog needs to stay on-lead for any reason, that's exactly what I'll do.

What happens in bad weather?

I walk in most weather. Dogs don't mind rain, and neither do I. I'll adjust the route to suit conditions — avoiding flooded paths, icy ground, or exposed hilltops in high wind. In genuinely dangerous weather (storms, severe ice), I'll let you know and we can rearrange.

Will my dog be in a vehicle with other dogs?

Yes, for group walks, dogs are transported together in a ventilated vehicle. Each dog has their own crate so they travel safely and calmly.

Pet check-in

What pets do you cover for check-in visits?

Dogs, cats, and small pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs. If you have a different type of pet, ask me and I'll let you know.

How long is a check-in visit?

Around 30 minutes. Enough time to feed, water, check on your pet, and spend a few minutes with them for company and comfort.

Can you give my pet medication?

Yes, I can administer oral medication, apply topical treatments, or follow other straightforward medication routines. We'll go through everything during the meet-and-greet so I know exactly what's needed.

Will you hold a key to my house?

Yes, I'll collect a key during the meet-and-greet and return it when the visits are complete. If you'd prefer, I can keep a spare key on file for future bookings. Keys are kept securely and labelled with no identifying information.

Can you visit twice a day?

Yes. For dogs and pets that need more frequent care, I can visit morning and evening. Each visit is charged separately.

Practical

What's your cancellation policy?

Please let me know by 6pm the day before if you need to cancel. Cancellations after that time may be charged in full. I'm always reasonable about genuine emergencies and unexpected situations.

Are you insured?

Yes. I carry full public liability insurance and care, custody and control insurance. I'm also pet first aid trained and DBS checked. I'm happy to provide proof of any of these on request.

How do I pay?

I invoice weekly or monthly, depending on your preference. Payment is by bank transfer. You'll receive a clear invoice with a breakdown of walks or visits.

What areas do you cover?

Bath city, Charlcombe, Lansdown, Larkhall, Fairfield Park, Widcombe, Bathwick, Walcot, Camden, Bear Flat, Weston, and surrounding areas. If you're not sure, get in touch and I'll let you know.

What if my dog doesn't get on with the group?

I match groups carefully by size, temperament, and energy level, and I introduce new dogs gradually. If a group walk isn't right for your dog, I'll recommend a solo walk instead. There's no pressure either way — the most important thing is that your dog is comfortable and safe.
